Traditional Indian patterns from the 1950s
Note of appreciation - John Fasal, Rolls Royce

TS Rao Mirajker at workIn 1929, TS Rao Mirajker setup a tailoring shop called Bangalore Emporium in Purasawalkam, Madras, India. The business tailored suits for an elite clientele comprising maharajas, "burra-sahibs", zamindars, judges, government officers and business families. What attracted people was the perfect fit and the stock of exquisite suiting and shirting material sourced by the Mirajker family.

An eye for detail and impeccable styling, gave clients a distinct identity through formal suits, sherwanis and churidhars. Bangalore Emporium built a reputation for excellent tailoring. In 1953, the business moved to Mount Road and was the most sought after tailoring house in Madras.
In time, the business was handed over to TSG Rao (Mirajker Jr.), who deftly managed to prosper for many years despite the intense competition in the tailoring world. Many customers were people who had been coming to them for generations. In early 2000, the legacy of Bangalore Emporium was left to Rajesh Mirajker.

Today, Bangalore Emporium houses the business of Mirajker Design. A different field, perhaps. But the same ethos, values, and goodwill live on. And, innovative designs from here, now "clothe" machines instead of men, making their mark on the world and improving the quality of life.
